What is Knee on Track?

When a knee has arthritis or a meniscus is irritated, the joint can feel tight and stiff. It can feel like there is no room for it to move.

Knee on Track is a gentle, hands-free knee traction treatment. You sit in a comfy chair. Soft pads hold the leg. Then the machine slowly opens space in the joint so the knee may move more easily. Each session takes about 10 minutes.

More space may help your knee bend and move more easily. We just brought this to our office in New Buffalo. It is live now.

Who it helps

Knee on Track is for people with knee arthritis or a meniscal tear who want their knee to move better. Maybe you:

  • Feel stiff when you get out of bed or a car
  • Have a hard time with stairs
  • Can't walk as far as you'd like
  • Want to stay active with family, garden, golf, or a walk on the beach

If that sounds like you, come see me. At your visit, I'll look at your knee and talk with you about whether Knee on Track is a good fit.

Your full knee plan

A knee needs more than one thing to get better. The first plan is about 8 weeks. How often you come is set for you. Each traction session takes about 10 minutes. If both knees are in your plan, we offer a discount.

  1. 1. Knee traction — gentle Knee on Track sessions to open space in the joint.
  2. 2. Stretching — to help loosen tight muscles around the knee.
  3. 3. Strengthening — strong legs help support your knee.
  4. 4. Home exercises — easy moves to keep progress going between visits.
  5. 5. Foot and ankle check — because your knee sits on top of your foot and ankle.
  6. 6. Orthotics, if needed — fully custom support, only if needed after a foot and ankle exam.

Your knee starts at your feet

Your feet are the base for your whole leg. If your arch is flat, or your ankle rolls in or is stiff, it can change how your knee moves with every step.

We check your foot and ankle structure, how you stand, and how you walk. If your feet need more support, we may suggest fully custom orthotics made for you. If you don't need them, we'll tell you that too.

Do more on your own at A Hot Place To Chill

Want to take an active role in your knee health? Our friends at A Hot Place To Chill, the recovery studio right next door, can help between visits.

  • Power Plate — a vibration platform for exercise. It may help you get more out of your strength work.
  • Leg compression — gentle squeezing boots that may help move fluid out of your legs so they feel lighter.
  • Red light — may help support your body as it calms inflammation.

A visit takes about an hour. It's a way to keep doing good things for your knees on your own time.

Questions people ask

What does Knee on Track feel like?

Most people say it feels like a gentle, steady stretch. You stay seated and relaxed the whole time.

How long is each session?

The traction part takes about 10 minutes. Your full visit may be longer with stretching and exercises.

How many visits will I need?

The first plan is about 8 weeks. How often you come is set for you after your exam.

Is this the same as Back on Track?

No. Back on Track is our spinal decompression for the back. Knee on Track is made just for the knee. Some people do both. We'll talk about what makes sense for you.

Do I need orthotics?

Not always. We check your feet and ankles first. We only suggest fully custom orthotics if your feet need the support.

Can I do things at home too?

Yes! You'll get home exercises. You can also visit A Hot Place To Chill next door for Power Plate, leg compression, and red light.
